Since its foundation in 1977, FOTOGRUPO became an institution which comprised all photography lovers in the Dominican Republic who wished an enthusiastic participation in the activities developed around them, such as photography courses, educative talks, competitions, national and international exhibitions, educative and technical trips, as well as a regular dissemination of photographic themes in the main national newspapers.

Led by its founder, the deceased master Wilfredo García, this group knew how to cyclically attract the most important and promising young lovers of this visual art, who have renewed its leadership structure as they have joined in. In 1987, it joins the international community of photography through its membership in the Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), the one which the national federation for the Dominican Republic is part of.

This year, FOTOGRUPO celebrates the 40th anniversary of its foundation. These have been years of constant photographic participation integrated into the cultural work of the Casa de Teatro, our host institution in Santo Domingo.
